Having cancer is a bit like cycling on a velodrome track. You can feel like you’re going around in circles”

We are delighted to announce that our official charity partner for our Newport 2018 challenge is Tenovus Cancer Care, Wales’ leading cancer charity. Tenovus Cancer Care brings practical advice, emotional support and treatment to where it matters most; the heart of the community. They help cancer patients and their loved ones cope, and through vital research, they offer hope.

Lisa Buckley, Head of Fundraising at Tenovus Cancer Care is thrilled to partner with Cyclone24 in what will be the charities 75th year of supporting cancer patients in Wales; “We really hope to see lots of Cyclone24 teams go the extra mile and get behind us, to raise as much money as they can to support cancer patients in their community.”

Both Cyclone24 and Tenovus Cancer Care are encouraging riders to enter the unknown and push boundaries to raise important funds for cancer patients and their loved ones.
By supporting Tenovus Cancer Care riders will also be helping to save cancer patients from travelling miles for their treatment, reducing the stress and expense of travelling to hospital. If every team of six was to raise just £1,000, they would be covering the costs for one of Tenovus Cancer Care’s Mobile Support Unit’s for an entire year.

Leukaemia survivor Michelle Brown from Newport is also encouraging people to sign up to the challenge; “Having cancer is a bit like cycling on a velodrome track. You can feel like you’re going in circles, between rounds of chemotherapy, blood transfusions, vile medications, hospital and doctors’ appointments. Having survived leukaemia myself I now value life in a way I never thought I would. So, if anyone is thinking about taking on this challenge, I’d definitely say to go for it! Not only will you have a fantastic experience, meet new people and achieve something incredible, but just think about the difference you could be making to someone else’s life – someone dealing with a challenge far greater”.

Cyclone24 and our event sponsor Stills are delighted to be partnering with Tenovus Cancer Care.

Zoe Westerman, Director at Cyclone24 said, “Riding as a team for 24 hours on 42 degree banking, with no brakes on a fixed gear bike is certainly a challenge, but I know that local people are always keen to push themselves to new limits for charity. Tenovus Cancer Care is a great Welsh charity which not only offers support, advice and treatment to cancer patients and their loved ones, but also promotes healthy lifestyles and funds cancer research to find new ways to prevent it, diagnose it and treat it.”

Early bird registration is open for teams wishing to raise funds for Tenovus Cancer Care until February. The charity is urging teams to sign up quick as places for the iconic event fill fast. Click here to sign up to support Team Tenovus Cancer Care.
